ABOUT

NATSOUMI / visual artist – artiste plasticienne
/ Director of Solidarity Organization for Fraternity and the Arts

Born into a Zen-Buddhist family, in Japan in 1980. The artist studied visual art history at Université de Paris, also took a feminism course at ULIP(the University of London Institute in Paris).  Subsequently, she began working as a contributing editor for design magazines, shifting her main focus to photography. Recently the photographer has exhibited in Sendai, Korea, New Zealand etc. By sheer accident, she has been shooting the people and their dying folklore culture a year before the nuclear incident.  NATSOUMI has been making challenging works in the fields of visual arts and literary arts. Her photobook TOKΘYO has been well received at Ginza’s Tsutaya Bookstore and also at bookstores in Paris, Bordeaux, Leipzig, Berlin and Istanbul. Aside from exhibitions at art galleries in Paris, NATSOUMI also had multiple presentations held both in Japan and overseas. Next spring, her solo exhibition will be held at Ginza’s Morioka Shoten in May 2020. NATSOUMI is currently working on noncamera photography workshops for children.
